Holgate Glacier and Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska
I recently travelled to Anchorage, Alaska, with previous posts detailing a hike taken in Chugach State Park as well as a visit to the Matanuska Glacier in Glacier View, Alaska. While in Alaska we also took a nature cruise to the Holgate Glacier and Kenai Fjords National Park. Kenai Fjords is heavily glaciated, with over 50% of the park covered in ice. This includes the Harding Icefield, a 700 square mile expanse of ice that spawns close to 40 glaciers. One of these is the three mile long Holgate Glacier that flows toward Aialik Bay on the Kenai Peninsula.
The cruise left from Seward, a small port about two and a half hours south of Anchorage. We saw puffins, sea lions, porpoises, and orcas, stopping at Holgate Glacier before sailing back to Seward.
