Ben Howard

As a New York commercial and editorial photographer who also maintains a fine arts practice, I make a point to keep current on the art world.  I am photographing an on-going portrait and documentary project with artists in their studio spaces.

While many are visual artists, I also pull in others from differing creative fields – musicians, wood-workers, writers, tailors, etc.  While the project is rooted in portraiture, I’m equally as interested in profiling and documenting the artistic and tactile processes behind the work.

This is Benjamin Howard.  A visual artist, in his words –

“My work stems from a form of automatism.  Finding form by pairing graphic line with color and shape has always been what has interested me.  Mostly, I start without much knowledge of where the painting will go.  As much as I influence the process, it’s important that I let the materials find their own identity.”
